A devastating car accident in Westminster has claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy and left four other teenagers injured, according to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. The crash occurred Tuesday night on Jasontown Road, near the intersection with John Hyde Road, leaving the community shaken and mourning the loss of a young life.
At approximately 9:47 p.m., deputies and members of the Carroll County Department of Fire and EMS responded to reports of a single-vehicle crash in the area. When they arrived, they found a Ford F-250 had gone off the road, traveled down an embankment, and overturned into Little Pipe Creek. The vehicle was resting on its roof, partially submerged in water.
The vehicle was occupied by five teenage males, including the driver, a 16-year-old from Westminster, and four passengers. Emergency responders quickly transported the occupants to nearby hospitals for treatment. The front-seat passenger, also a 16-year-old from Westminster, was taken to Carroll Hospital by medic unit but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The other three teens, including the driver, were transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Two of the teens were airlifted via Maryland State Police Aviation, while the remaining two were taken by medics using Carroll County Fire and EMS units. The severity of their injuries has not been publicly disclosed, but officials confirmed all are receiving treatment.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office has launched a thorough crash investigation. The Sheriff’s Crash Reconstruction Unit is examining the details of the incident, and authorities said charges may be filed depending on the findings and in consultation with the Carroll County State’s Attorney’s Office. As of now, no specific allegations have been made.
In a social media statement released December 3, the sheriff’s office expressed condolences and asked for privacy. They stated, “Out of respect for the families involved, no additional information will be provided until the conclusion of the investigation.”
The community is undoubtedly grappling with grief as they await further details. The loss of a young life in such a tragic manner reminds everyone of the importance of road safety and the unpredictable nature of accidents.
